Select the "View On-Demand Recording" button to begin. Theatre Teacher B.K. Goodman's students in Texas use a cosplay tutorials found on the internet to help them design and build costumes with plastic wrap and tape. In this excerpt of a cosplay tutorial created by Sveltlana from Kamui Cosplay, it is easy to see how B.K. Goodman's students created their costumes. The techniques for making an arm piece shown in the video will work with any kind of shaped wear or armor. Once the taping is done the finished product is cut off and can either be painted or used as is, or used as a pattern to create a final product from craft foam sheets. CAUTION: Craft foam layers require the use of hand tools, so safety and knowledge of hand tools is important. Open to download resource.
Open to download resource. Mr. Goodman mentioned several choices of inspiration: Greek Gods, Norse Myths, Anime, Manga, comic book characters, super heros, even the elements. the article you read added several more including Star Wars and Disney characters. The next step two involves choosing an idea for a character followed by research to pull together a collection of images and pulling together a "mood board" that illustrates the characteristics of your costume. You will find a sample mood board from NYC costume designer Shirlee Idzakovich in the handouts. How does your costume reflect the theme? How does it reflect the character? Your mood board should show all that visually. After completing the mood board, costume designers use croquis to create design renderings inspired by the mood board. Croquis are simply a silhouette used as a base to draw a costume rendering. Use the attached croqui as a base for your costume rendering.
Step 5 - Upload Your Design
Graded as Pass/Fail
Graded as Pass/Fail The time estimate for watching the videos, reading the article, researching a character and creating a sample design rendering has been set at 90 minutes. To qualify for your certificate of completion, please upload your mood board and costume rending as proof of your work. We hope you were inspired by viewing this Cosplay course to try the lesson.
